Cookies and local storage
Last updated: 14 October 2026
Clear Tape uses only the cookies and browser storage it needs to work and to remember your choices. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies or any third-party tracker, so we don’t ask you to accept any. To learn which pages and campaigns bring new members, the website keeps where you came from in your browser tab’s session storage until you sign up or close the tab (section 2).
1. Cookies we set
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| __Host-ct_session | Keeps you signed in to the dashboard. Strictly necessary. | 30 days if you chose to stay signed in, otherwise until you close the browser (at most 12 hours) |
| __Host-ct_google | Protects “Sign in with Google” while you are on Google’s page. Strictly necessary. | 10 minutes |
Both are first-party, can’t be read by scripts, and are sent only to app.cleartape.ai. The public website cleartape.ai sets no cookies of its own. Cloudflare, which protects both, may set a strictly necessary security cookie (such as __cf_bm) to tell people from bots.
2. Storage in your browser
Local storage stays on your device until you delete it; session storage disappears when you close the tab. None of it is sent to us unless a feature needs it (as noted below), and you can delete all of it at any time by clearing your browser’s site data for cleartape.ai.
| Name | What it does | Where, how long |
|---|---|---|
| ct.ref | The referral code in the link you arrived with, so it still applies when you move between pages. Sent to us when you sign up. | cleartape.ai, session storage |
| ct.utm | Where you came from: the campaign tags of the link you arrived with and the referring website’s domain. Sent to us once, when you sign up (sign-up source, see the Privacy Policy). | cleartape.ai, session storage |
| ct.source | The same on the sign-in page, together with the cleartape.ai page you came from. Sent once after you sign up, then deleted. | app.cleartape.ai, session storage |
| ct-password-offered:<email> | That the sign-in page has already offered to set a password for this email address, so it asks only once. | app.cleartape.ai, local storage |
| ct-billing-until | Your paid plan’s end date before you pay, so the dashboard can tell when Stripe has confirmed the payment. | app.cleartape.ai, session storage, removed on your return |
| cleartape.coach.v1 | The coach conversation in progress. | app.cleartape.ai, session storage |
| cleartape.theme, cleartape.layout, cleartape.folds, cleartape.timezone | Your theme, layout and menu, the sections you collapsed, and the time zone you chose. | app.cleartape.ai, local storage |
| cleartape.systems.v1, cleartape.custom-systems.v1, cleartape.screener.rules.v1 | Your trading systems, watchlist and screener rules. The systems you switch on are also saved with your account, so every device uses the same ones; the rules of a system you built yourself are sent to us only to run a backtest or a system check with them, or as part of a coach conversation (see the Privacy Policy). | app.cleartape.ai, local storage |
| cleartape.screenPrefs, cleartape.x.accounts.v1 | The last Clear Cut view you used and the X accounts you follow. | app.cleartape.ai, local storage |
| cleartape.tourSeen, cleartape.changelogSeen | Whether you have seen the guide and the latest “What’s new” note. | app.cleartape.ai, local storage |
| ct-viewer, ct.mood | Your access level (role and plan, nothing else) and the last fear & greed reading, so the dashboard opens at once, even offline. | app.cleartape.ai, local storage |
If you install the app, its service worker keeps a copy of the app’s pages and files in your browser’s cache storage so it opens quickly and works offline.
3. Third-party embeds
Some dashboard pages show content from other companies:
- TradingView: price charts, the sector heatmap and market widgets.
- X: timelines and posts on the X monitor, when shown through X’s own embeds.
When this content loads, your browser connects to these companies, which receive your IP address and may set or read their own cookies, under their own privacy policies (TradingView, X). We ask X not to use the data for personalisation. If you don’t want this, you can block third-party cookies in your browser; the rest of Clear Tape keeps working.
